Let the picture speak for itself. Gooey chocolate, cherry, cream cheese goodness!
2 chocolate cake mixes. One will be used dry, and the other you mix per box instructions.
2 blocks cream cheese
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup white sugar
2 smaller cans of cherry pie filling or 1 large can (like you buy at Costco)
Layer cherries, 1 sliced block of cream cheese, 1/2 cup each of brown sugar and white sugar, then the dry cake mix. Layer everything again using the mixed cake batter on top. Line a large dutch oven with foil and bake for approx 45 to 60 minutes with 17 coals on bottom and 15 on top, or in a 350 degree oven. Serve with whipped cream or ice cream.
*NOTE: I thought the original recipe was quite rich so over time I've adapted it a bit. I only do one layer of the cream cheese and sugar and lessen the quantity of sugar. I also used not quite all of the dry cake mix and the mixed cake mix. It still fills a large dutch oven.
